Description

SBS4MRR N Scale 24-Series Tri-Level 24x24 Straight Module

The SBS4MRR N Scale 24-Series Tri-Level 24x24 Straight Module is the basic building block of the tri-level module design allowing modelers to develop a vast model railroad empire in a very small space, relatively speaking.

The decks are spaced as follows from the floor (approximate, includes 1" foam board):

  • Top Deck: 54.5
  • Middle Deck:36
  • Bottom Deck: 17.5

Each deck has 15" clear height plus and additional 2-1/2" minimum clear height for wiring and lighting if desired.

Actual Finished Dimensions (W x D x H - Inches): 24 x 27-3/4 x 72-1/8

SBS4MRR tri-level modules are engineered to create a three deck, free standing structure designed to minimize the footprint of the layout by maximizing your vertical space.

The decks are optimally spaced to afford easy access to each deck.  The deck to deck spacing is also optimized to allow installation of larger scenery elements like buildings and trees with plenty of clearance to the next deck.

The design also incorporates a covered, structural valance over the top deck for easy lighting and additional storage space as well as plenty of off-the-floor storage space below the bottom deck.

The structure is open for easy access but rigid enough to prevent vibration when working on any level.

All modules are made from high quality, profession grade materials.

  • Structural E-members and facia plates are 1/2 inch hardwood-grade sanded plywood
    • E-members are designed to create multiple wireways on each level when fully assembled
  • Deck and backdrop plates are 5mm hardwood-grade sanded plywood
  • The heavy duty stiffener backplate is 3/4 inch hardwood-grade sanded plywood
    • The stiffener backplate improves the rigidity of the structure in free-standing installations and adds additional weight at the back of the module for improved stability.  The backplate also includes adjustable kickstands to further improve the stability of the module, especially on uneven surfaces like garage floors.

The individual pieces are CNC router cut for precision fit and feature an interlocking tab and slot design that make assembly super fast and super easy.  The final structure is super strong and virtually self-squaring.

The facia plates are designed to create a pocket between the facia, backdrop and deck plate to be able to install a piece of 1" thick foam insulation board (not included) for a clean, finished appearance.  The foam insulation board is a traditional layout construction material used to dampen noise from operation of the trains as well as to simplify the installation of above-grade and below-grade scenery elements.

All modules come complete with a basic hardware kit that includes all of the necessary bolts, washers, nylok nuts, T-nuts, and leveling legs to assemble the module and join one mating module.

Modules can be purchased in various states of finish including:

  • Flat Packed
  • Assembled
  • Assembled and Painted

The fully painted option includes two coats of premium paint on all front and top surfaces in one color of choice (sky blue recommended). Sides are not painted so the modules don't stick together (ask me why this matters!) and the back and bottom generally not visible.

The modules can also be purchased unassembled and flat-packed so they can be assembled on-site.  Assembly is fast and requires only wood glue and brad nails (optional) to complete.  Ok, maybe you will need a glue brush, file, hammer, straight edge, level and sander too for a really pro finish.

Shipping charges must be quoted and charged separately for all orders.

Here is a time-lapsed video of the assembly of a basic straight module to show just how easy it is.
